The Gāyatrī Mantra, also known as the Sāvitrī mantra, is a highly revered mantra from the Rig Veda (Mandala 3.62.10), dedicated to Savitr, a form of the sun. Gāyatrī is the name of the Vedic meter in which the verse is composed. Its recitation is traditionally preceded by oṃ and the formula bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ, known as the mahāvyāhṛti, or "great (mystical) utterance". Vishvamitra is said to have created Gayatri Mantra.
lyrics
Om Bhur Bhuvah Svaha
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bargo Devasya Di Mahi
Di Yo Yo Nah prachodayat
May that, which we call Truth,
The Supreme Lord
The Self-Luminous Consciousness
The Source of all Existence
Known and Unknown,
That Alone which is Worthy of Devotion
That, by knowing which,
Ignorance and suffering are dispelled,
Absorb and Still the thinking mind
And Awaken us to the Supreme Truth.
